ONION HARVESTING IN THE KHATLON OBLAST BOKHTAR REGION
With the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development” within the framework of the “Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project” annually provides quality certified seeds, both locally produced and from abroad, to vulnerable farms and seed growers in the country to increase crop yields, develop seed production and ensure food supply to the country.
This year, the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development ” within the framework of the “Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project ” provided quality onion seeds of Hazar, Seyhan and Albeni varieties from Turkey, which, according to the Republic of Tajikistan Ministry of Agriculture plan, were provided to 12809 vulnerable farms of the country.
The imported seeds are certified, zoned to the climatic conditions of Tajikistan and high-yielding.
Farmers of the country (project beneficiaries) effectively used autumn season favorable weather conditions and sowed onions in due time.
It should be noted that the institution provided 4,416 kg of quality onion seeds of Hazar and Seyhan varieties to 736 vulnerable farms in the towns and districts of Khatlon region under the “Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project”.
Compliance with agrotechnical norms allowed the farmers in the region (project beneficiaries) to obtain high onion yields and start harvesting.
At present, onion harvesting in Panj, Jaihun, N. Khusrav, Shartuz, Kabadiyan and Dusti districts continues, and farmers provide the crop for the domestic market and leave some for export as well.
The farmers expressed their gratitude to the continuous support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development”.
