Visit of the World Bank Mission to Sughd Region
The agricultural sector development is considered one of the priority areas of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, which constantly takes necessary measures to ensure food security of the country population, which is one of the strategic national goals.
From May 5 to 7, 2025, within the framework of the “Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector” project, the World Bank Mission held meetings with executive bodies of the towns, districts, regions, with officials and beneficiaries in Sughd region to support the project implementation process.
On May 5, within the framework of its working visit to Sughd Region, the World Bank Mission held a working meeting with Anvar Yakubi, Deputy Chairman of the Region on Economy.
During the meeting, the Deputy Chairman of the region expressed his views on repair and reconstruction of agricultural facilities, provision of project beneficiaries with quality and certified seeds of agricultural crops, strengthening the material and technical base of needy and seed farms, drilling wells for irrigation of agricultural land, construction of agrologistic center in the free economic zone of the region.
It was also noted that about 85 percent of agricultural land in the region have pump irrigation, some of the pumps are currently in need of major repairs. Also, in order to implement the orders and instructions of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, in particular the Founder of Peace and National Unity, the Leader of the Nation, the President of the country respected Emomali Rahmon, regarding the introduction of unused lands into agricultural turnover, the specialists in this field have developed new plans for their irrigation and presented them to the World Bank Mission. The issues related to increasing crop yields, their processing within the country, as well as the establishment of an agrologistic center in the free economic zone of the region were among the key issues discussed during the meeting.

During the meeting, gratitude was expressed to the representatives of the World Bank and the head of the State Institution “Development of Entrepreneurship in Agriculture” for the continuous cooperation in the development of the agricultural sector.
In conclusion, the World Bank Mission expressed its gratitude for warm welcome to the Executive Body of the State Administration of Sughd Region.
