Assessment of obsolete hazardous chemicals
Since 2024, with the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan support, the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development” within the framework of the “Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project” 3rd component, started the work on neutralization of obsolete chemical materials and pesticides, as well as containers used for chemical solutions.
At the moment, the institution transfers such chemical materials for disposal to a special landfill for obsolete pesticides in Vakhsh district.
For this purpose, this week the institution specialists together with international environmental consultant Poltovets Alexey had monitoring in Sughd region to determine the condition of storing the expired chemical materials and containers for pesticides. The works were done in the State Institution for Plant Protection and Agrochemistry branches laboratories and warehouses, as well as in the Republic of Tajikistan Academy of Agricultural Sciences Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry in Sughd region.
During the inspection, the international consultant, observing safety requirements, provided the specialists with valuable recommendations on identification of pesticides’ names, their danger degree, as well as on the issues of their use, transportation, packaging and timely disposal.
