IMPROVING ACCESS TO WATER UNDER THE “STRENGTHENING RESILIENCE OF THE AGRICULTURE SECTOR PROJECT”

The State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development” within the “Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project” framework is starting to implement new plans in various areas of agriculture development.

This year, within the project framework, the institution plans to drill 5 wells to irrigate the unused lands of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan scientific institutions. To date, 3 wells have been fully put into operation and 2 are at the completion stage.

Besides, in order to provide vulnerable farms in the country with water, a project to drill another series of wells is currently at the stage of technical and economic assessment and costing, and drilling works are expected to be implemented this year.

At present, drilling a well to enrich the lands of the State Unitary Enterprise “Seed and Vegetable Varieties of Tajikistan” branch in Khujand and the State Enterprise “State Crop Variety Testing and Variety Protection Station” in Istaravshan district has been completed; installation of protected cables to transformers, electricity meters and well pumps is on time and will be completed in the coming days.

The institution specialists checked the works progress and gave useful recommendations to the workers engaged in installation and wiring works on compliance with safety rules, labor protection and sanitary norms in order to meet the Republic of Tajikistan current legislation and the World Bank requirements.
