SUPPORT FOR FARMERS TO DEVELOP AGRICULTURE
Development of the sphere of agriculture is one of the priority directions of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan which provides the population with food, industry, raw materials and improvement of the economic situation of the population. With the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development” within the framework of the Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project to improve the material and technical base of seed farms of the Republic a number of agricultural machinery was procured such as: 20 units of plow, 15 units of cultivator, 13 units of Pneumatic Precision Planter, 13 units of Grain seeder, 4 units of Cotton seed and grain cleaner machine, 15 units of potato planters, 15 units of potato harvester, 2 units of Laser Land Leveler, 4 units of Cotton gin machine, 4 units of Cotton Waste Press. On October 10 of the current year this equipment was handed over to farms.
Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan respected Hakimzoda Kurbon, Director of the World Bank Office in the Republic of Tajikistan Ozan Sevimli, Head of the World Bank Project Working Group Hazem Ibrahim Hammal, Deputy Director of the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development” Kurbonov Boymurod and representatives of other relevant organizations and institutions took part in the ceremony of handing over agricultural machinery.
During his speech, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Hakimzoda Kurbon told about the constant support of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon on the development of the sphere and logistical support of farms, and also gave useful advice for the timely implementation of instructions and assignments of the Honorable Leader of the Nation on the efficient use of water and land, increasing crop yields, growing crops with the use of modern technologies.
Mr. Ozan Sevimli, Director of the World Bank Office in the Republic of Tajikistan, expressed gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Agriculture of the country for the support provided to the sector.
It should be noted that agricultural machinery was procured by the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development” within the framework of Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project, and was transferred to seed farms in the form of 70% grant funds and 30% payment funds by leasing. These 30% funds are interest free and will be repaid from farm income in three years.
During the transfer of agricultural machinery, it was emphasized that in the next stage, agricultural equipment will also be transferred to these farms in order to further improve their material and technical base.
Farmers also expressed their gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development” for their constant support and care, and in response to this support expressed their interest in promoting the development of the sector to ensure food security of the country.
In order to increase yields in 2023 the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development” within the framework of Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project on the basis of mutual agreement procured and transferred to seed farms 280 tons of seeds of wheat of elite group of “Grom” (100 tons), “Alekseich” (120 tons) and “Bezostaya 100” (60 tons) plus 381.8 tons of mineral fertilizers, 150 tons of elite group seeds of “Lodos” (105 tons), “Perla” (50 tons), Aria (10 tons), elite group seed potatoes of varieties “Gala” (400 tons), “Krone” (130 tons) plus 3507.4 tons of mineral fertilizers in 2022. As a result there has been a good harvesting this year.
It should be noted that 150 tons of elite group wheat seeds, 200 tons of “Alekseich”, 150 tons of “Timiryazevka 150”, as well as 1250 tons of mineral fertilizers were procured for sowing in 2024 for the beneficiaries under the project.
