Monitoring of the growth of seed potatoes in seed farms of the Sughd region

Specialists of the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development” within the framework of Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project from July 16 to 20 this year reviewed the progress of field work and the current state of seed potato growth. They visited seed and dehkan farms in Shakhriston, Devashtich, Istaravshan and Isfara districts.

Last year after sowing quality seeds and following potato cultivation techniques farmers (beneficiaries) got high yield from potato fields and were satisfied with the result.

This year, taking advantage of favorable weather, they planted crops, including seed potatoes of elite varieties Picasso, Evolution and Arizona, in a timely and efficient manner and within the established deadlines. As a result, potato crop growth in each region is now quite high.

Specialists of the institution together with the heads of dehkan and seed farms, production and farming cooperatives “Farkhod”, “Abdurakhimbek”, “Ravshan” of the Shakhriston region, “Mukhamadaliev Alijon”, “Jobirjon”, “Sadullobobo”, “Subkhonzoda”, “Ovchii Gonchi”, “Khodzhakho”, “Khotam Gurbonov”, “Gazantarak” and “Markazi Potato” of Devashtichsky district, “Obodoni” of Istaravshan and farm “Chorkukh” of Isfara visited seed potato growing areas. Potatoes of the elite varieties Picasso, Evolution and Arizona received high praise from experts and farmers.

Currently, protective measures against pests and inter-row treatments are being carried out in potato fields: fertilizing, loosening and weeding in accordance with agricultural cultivation techniques. Farmers are satisfied with the good growth of their crops and are busy with field work.

The institution’s specialists provided farmers with useful scientific recommendations to promptly and quickly increase the yield of seed potatoes.

It is worth noting that from July 18 to July 20, 2024 in the potato growing areas of the Sughd region a national seminar was held on the topic “Technology for growing potatoes in the mountainous and foothill regions of Tajikistan.”

The seminar was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Ziyozoda Sulaimon Rizoi, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Hakimzoda Kurbon, the Chairman of the Sughd region, Mr. Rajabboy Ahmadzoda, representatives of relevant committees and departments of the Republic, heads of individual cities and districts, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Sughd and Khatlon regions, cities and districts subordinate to the republic, the head office, board, departments and branches of agriculture, as well as farmers.

As part of this event, specialists from all cities and regions of the republic took part. Participants also got acquainted with the best practices of the beneficiaries of the Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project in the farms of the Maschoi Kuhi, Ayni, Shakhriston, Istaravshan and Devashtich regions.
