Training on integrated pest management for increasing crop yields

State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development” in cooperation with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) today (23.01.2025) under the implementation of the “Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project” organized a three-day training on integrated pest management.

Integrated pest management is an important strategy for sustainable agriculture and stability improvement of agricultural systems, which is recognized worldwide as an effective strategy for maintaining crop health, integrating a range of biological, mechanical and chemical methods, relying on natural mechanisms to reduce pest damage, giving priority to health, safety and environment.

Agriculture is an important part of Tajikistan’s economy, and the introduction of integrated plant protection methods is necessary to increase crop yields, reduce dependence on harmful chemical pesticides, and ensure long-term food security.

The training was held in the capital Dushanbe and consisted of a series of presentations covering a wide range of topics important for the implementation of integrated pest management strategies. Topics included the main components and principles, examples of successful implementation at the international level, systems approach and methods of implementation of integrated pest management on farms.

This training was organized specifically for plant protection specialists of State Institution for Plant Protection and Chemicalization of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Tajik Agrarian University named after Shirinshokh Shotemur, in order to improve the knowledge and skills of specialists using modern technologies and to apply the achievements of science in practice in the future.

At the end of the training the participants were awarded certificates.
