There are dates in the history of mankind, the importance and greatness of which become more and more evident as the years go by. Victory Day is among such unforgettable dates. This holiday is dear and honorable for all mankind, including us, Tajiks.

We bow before the achievements of the Heroes of the War and will always remember the price we paid for a peaceful and happy life. During the Great Patriotic War 250 thousand inhabitants of our sunny country voluntarily went to the front together with citizens of 14 countries of the former Soviet Union and fought for victory over Hitler’s fascism. More than 90 thousand of them died, and 57 Tajik defenders were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for their bravery.

This cruel war, which is the most terrible war in the history of mankind, lasted more than 1418 days and claimed the lives of 26 million citizens of a huge country – the former Soviet Union. During the years of the Great Patriotic War on the territory of the Soviet Union 1710 small and large cities, 70 thousand villages and settlements, 6 million buildings, 32 thousand industrial enterprises, 40 thousand hospitals and medical institutions, 84 thousand schools, technical schools, universities and research institutes were destroyed. More than 5 million people were left homeless, 4100 railroad stations and 65 thousand kilometers of railroads, as well as 14 thousand railway bridges were destroyed.

During the difficult years of the Great Patriotic War, hardworking people in the rear, including the workers of Tajikistan, with their efforts and achievements made a significant contribution to ensuring victory. During this period, the workers of industrial enterprises, in particular, the Leninabad cotton plant, textile factory “Krasniy Tkach” and others, worked tirelessly under the motto “Everything for the front, everything for Victory”.

It is the sense of patriotism and diligence of the proud and patriotic children of our nation that serve as an example and lesson to us today. They helped strengthen our state independence and made the building and prosperity of our native Tajikistan their highest goal.

May the next generation of Tajikistan, with the same deep sense of patriotism and national pride, direct their energy for the benefit of the Motherland, striving for its development.

With this sincere wish, I once again congratulate all the people of Tajikistan on Victory Day and wish all of you, dear employees, veterans and participants of the Great Patriotic War, good health and happy life.
